Road Safety in Mongolia

Road safety Mongolia

Our local road safety partner

We support road safety in Mongolia through our local road safety partners, the Global Shapers Ulaanbaatar Hub and GerHub.

The Global Shapers community is a network of inspiring young people under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional and global challenges. With more than 7,000 members, the Global Shapers Community, which is a World Economic Forum initiative, spans 369 city-based hubs in 171 countries. The Global Shapers Ulaanbaatar Hub is a diverse but collective group of young people committed to shaping a better future in Mongolia and beyond. The #UBeSAFE road safety awareness campaign is a project initiated by Global Shapers Ulaanbaatar in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank and partnership with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Road and Transportation and the Traffic Police of Mongolia. The project aims to improve the road safety management and operations to enhance the quality of life and to support sustainable socio-economic development in Mongolia.

Gerhub is a mission-driven organisation that seeks to find innovative and creative solutions to the most pressing issues in ger areas of Mongolia. They strive to launch communities into action and empower residents to become innovators and creative problem solvers. In partnership with EASST, they have improved road safety at the Hugjil Complex School with community-led initiatives, concluding with a “street makeover” work around the school, including a new pedestrian crossing, new road signs, a dedicated ‘kiss and drop’ zone, and barriers to protect pedestrians from road traffic. In 2024, we scaled up the project to schools #37 and #140 and conducted social media awareness campaigns to improve road safety. GerHub played an active role by raising awareness through informative posters at Schools #37 and #140, producing social media videos, and holding interactive workshops, engaging 72 community members, including local police, officials, and school administrators.
