On 16th August 2013, EASST partner the Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) joined forces with the “ProtectMD” Foundation, the National Patrol Inspectorate (NPI) and Department of Education of Gagauzia to begin their partnership project “Be Aware Be Safe” in Ceadir-Lunga and Comrat.
In response to the large numbers of adult and child road deaths, the organizers conducted road safety lessons at the orphanage in Ceadir-Lunga where children were taught the rules of the road with a particular emphasis on the importance of using reflectors at night. The children were shown an educational video on the use of reflectors and how to wear them.
The children were presented with reflectors and educational materials and were delighted to receive a surprise visitor – a zebra (pictured) who distributed sweets and balloons.

With the Patrol Police, the children participated in a road safety action reminding drivers of the speed limit and urging them to abide the law.
During the action the police officers and children distributed air fresheners with the message ‘Speeding Kills!’ in order to encourage drivers to obey the speed limit. The children also advised drivers to pay particular care when driving near schools.
