EASST’s Belarus Partner - Belarussian Auto Moto Touring Club (BKA) – together with the Road Traffic Police Department of the city of Minsk and with support from EASST, has recently produced two road safety videos to be shown across national television channels and at big enterprises and schools
‘Kids are not responsible’ is a 27 minute TV-programme investigating the question of child safety on the streets and near schools of the city of Minsk. The programme contains several interviews and life stories of local families affected by road accidents and speeding drivers. It highlights the importance of strict enforcement of speed limits in school zones and kids’ play areas. The programme shows examples of drivers’ negligence and lack of responsibility when driving in the city. Irina Potyakina, Director of BKA, features in the programme. As Irina points out, “During this year BKA working with the Road Traffic Police have carried out around 40 child road safety trainings at schools across the Republic of Belarus. After each training we perform a post-training analysis to see if the situation at particular schools has improved, and I have to admit that we see very positive results of such road safety actions. We believe that even one child’s life saved is absolutely worth all the work.”
BKA has also produced a short video ‘Follow the Rules – Save Your Live’ on the issue of speeding and the importance of following road safety rules from a young age.
Both videos were created with support from EASST. BKA plan to produce about 20,000 copies of the longer video and distribute it across schools and large enterprises from February 2015. The short video will be shown on TV during prime-time as a part on national road safety media strategy.
