Road Safety in Albania

Our local road safety partner

We support road safety in Albania through our local road safety partner, the Automobile Club Albania (ACA), a non-profit, non-governmental, voluntary organisation established in 2007. ACA became a member of the Federation Internationale de Automobilism (FiA) in October 2008 for the Mobility section and in November 2009 for the Sport Section. ACA, as all the Automobile Clubs in the world, is highly engaged in road safety programmes and has been very active in promoting road safety under the UN Decade of Action 2011-2020. ACA joined EASST as an official partner in 2017.

ACA’s mission is to promote the interest of Albanian citizens and in general Albanian society towards auto mobility and sport through developing and supporting both sport events and road safety activities and programmes. It is estimated that 468 people are killed in road traffic collisions in Albania every year. ACA is officially recognised by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in accordance with the Albanian Road Code as the official Road Assistance Service Provider for the Albanian Territory. In 2016 ACA received the “Excellence in Road Safety” award and in 2017 they hosted the European Traffic Education Contest on Road Safety.
In 2020, ACA aims to expand the coverage of its road safety education programme to include 15 cities across Albania and advocate for road safety to be included in the national curriculum as well as organising, for the 10th consecutive year, the National Traffic Educational Contest.
