Road Safety in Mongolia

Road safety Mongolia

Our local road safety partner

We support road safety in Mongolia through our local road safety partner, the Global Shapers Ulaanbaatar Hub. The Global Shapers community is a network of inspiring young people under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional and global challenges. With more than 7,000 members, the Global Shapers Community, which is a World Economic Forum initiative, spans 369 city-based hubs in 171 countries. The Global Shapers Ulaanbaatar Hub is a diverse but collective group of young people committed to shaping a better future in Mongolia and beyond.

Through initiatives such as the #UBeSafe, the Mongol Ger Project, Media Excellence Fellowship and Young Sustainable Leadership programmes, Global Shapers Ulaanbaatar nourish cross-sector, cross-Hub and cross-culture partnerships to improve the local and regional community in the areas of road safety, preservation of cultural heritage, and youth involvement for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

In particular, the #UBeSAFE road safety awareness campaign is a project initiated by Global Shapers Ulaanbaatar in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank and partnership with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Road and Transportation and the Traffic Police of Mongolia. The project aims to improve the road safety management and operations to enhance the quality of life and to support sustainable socio-economic development in Mongolia. A carefully orchestrated media campaign reached 1 million people and is expected to improve road safety and decrease poor driving behaviour. One of the main accomplishments is the campaign’s pursuit of getting Mongolian traffic law to adopt the requirements of having child safety carseats for children under 10 years of age, which came to an effect as of November 1, 2018.
