On 19th -20th April EASST partners from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan took part in the Central Asia Regional Economic Council (CAREC) Road Safety Workshop in Bangkok, Thailand.
The workshop was the first of its kind, encouraging CAREC countries to work together to develop a regional road safety strategy, and jointly undertake capacity development activities.
Each country representative gave a presentation on situation of Road Safety in their country. It was collectively agreed that the strategy should prioritse all 5 directions of work as determined by the UN Decade of Action action plan with a focus on “providing safe corridors for all transport in the CAREC region.”
CAREC countries were represented by the governments of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
