On 7th August 2012, EASST’s partner in Moldova Serghei Diaconu was appointed Head of the Road Traffic Police of Moldova.

Serghei first became an EASST partner in 2009 as President of the Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM). Since then he was promoted to become an advisor to the General Secretary of the Government of Moldova and to Prime Minister Filat. As a result of EASST’s police exchange in 2011, he was then given the additional responsibility of leading the reform of the Ministry for Internal Affairs including road policing.

Following announcement of the appointment, Serghei is quoted widely in the Moldovan media as saying his policy will be “zero tolerance for violations, zero tolerance for corruption”.

EASST is delighted with Serghei’s appointment and will continue to support his efforts over the coming months.
