The Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) is pleased to announce its new partnership with Young Generation of Tajikistan (YGT) with the aim to reduce the number child injuries and fatalities in the Firdavsi District of Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Road traffic injuries are the main cause of death for young people aged 10-24 years worldwide. In Tajikistan, where more than 70% of the country’s eight million inhabitants are aged under 30, road traffic collisions are having a profound effect on its younger generations.  An organisation eager to change this is YGT who since 2004 has been working to improve the lives of young people in Tajikistan.

During September 2014 to March 2015, with EASST funding, YGT is aiming to lower the number of road-related injuries and deaths of children up to 16 years in the Firdavsi District of the capital Dushanbe.  The project will see road safety education delivered to hundreds of school pupils to help improve their safety as pedestrians (an identified risk) and will see the development of a ‘Youth Road Inspectors’ programme.

EASST looks forward to its continued cooperation with YGT and improving road safety in Tajikistan together in support of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-20.
