During 11th – 20th November 2013, EASST partner the Road Safety Support Foundation Ukraine conducted a series of road safety trainings for parents of preschool children at the kindergartens of 8 cities within Kharkiv and Donetsk. The training was carried out as part of the “Parents-Drivers” Project supported by the State Road Police Department of Ukraine and Shell Ukraine. The project aims to raise awareness and knowledge among young parents on how to ensure their children’s safety while travelling.
Parents were reminded of their responsibility to ensure their child’s safety. They were advised on defense driving in order to minimize the risk of having a road traffic collision, and were advised on the correct methods for seating and strapping in a child. Special attention was paid to the physiological and psychological differences between the behaviour of children and adults as road users and the necessity of using reflective materials in the dark.
Reflective bracelets, flickers, school-bags and leaflets were produced as a part of the project and were distributed among the children.
