Emily Carr appointed Director General of EASST

We are delighted to announce that Emily Carr has been appointed Director General of EASST, bringing more than 20 years of experience working with NGOs and partners across Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, including over a decade in operational leadership within EASST.

Emily has led EASST’s work on children and young people’s road safety education, community and stakeholder engagement, and capacity building. She manages the organisation’s flagship Safe School Zone project, funded by the FIA Foundation, which advocates for 30km/h school zones in seven countries. She also developed the award-winning EASST Road Safety Education Pack, now available in 16 languages and has reached tens of thousands of children.

Emily is the principal author of EASST’s School Zone Assessment Toolkit, now adopted by NGOs in seven countries, and serves as a key expert for road safety on the Eastern Partnership Road Safety Observatory, an EU-supported project to improve the quality of road safety data collection across the Eastern Partnership countries. She also created EASST’s donations programme, which provides high-visibility clothing to fire services and road police across Eastern Europe.

The appointment follows EASST founder Emma MacLennan’s transition to President Emeritus, a role in which she will be less involved in day-to-day operations while continuing to share her experience and expertise to selected strategic projects.
