Ensuring child safety in the car in Moldova

Children's Road Safety, Moldova, News

Throughout October, EASST partners the Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) along with patrolling police visited lyceums and schools in Chisinau where they held a series of training sessions for parents, teachers and children on the safety of kids in cars and the use of child restraint systems

The adults were coached on national legislation regarding the use of child restraint systems and received useful information on their correct usage. During the sessions, the trainers initiated serious discussions on the importance of car restraint systems and screened a video demonstrating the effectiveness and advantages of using appropriate restraints. Parents and teachers reacted well and by the end of the training were convinced on the indispensability of a special car restraint for a safe car journey.

Most persuasive was the participation of the school children who helped the ACM and police distribute brochures, t-shirts and stickers to their parents and teachers and asked them to be more attentive on the roads and to be responsible parents.

The ACM launched the Keep your Kids Safe in Cars! project in May 2017. The campaign aims to promote the use of child car restraint systems and kids safety in transport across Moldova through a series of initiatives to raise public awareness and engage national public authorities and relevant non-governmental actors about child restraint systems, and to improve the culture and responsibility of parent-drivers for their child-passengers.
