All parents who use child car seats properly are rewarded with the knowledge that their children will be much safer in the event of a road crash. In a competition sponsored by the Automobile Club of Moldova and EASST, some lucky parents were able to win additional rewards for their attention to road safety. The competition invited parents to submit on Facebook photographs of their children properly strapped into child restraints appropriate for their ages. During one week, tens of active parents posted their photos online along with calls to the public about the importance of using child restraints and the responsibility of parents to observe child safety.

The winning families were presented with EASST high visibility t-shirts and hats during the ‘Security’ exhibition at the MoldExpo Centre in Chisinau. They were also presented with information leaflets on using child restraints, a children’s road safety DVD produced by the Road Police and a Decade of Action tag.

EASST Director Emma MacLennan and ACM’s Tatiana Mihailova award EASST high visibility t-shirts and hats to the winning families

Mrs Natalia Servan, the first-prize winner, welcomed the importance given by the ACM to child car safety commenting: “Children are our future and everything to our community. Please take care and buckle them up to ensure their safety during any trip.”

The proper use of a child car seat can easily make the difference between life, serious injury or death in the case of a crash. Many parents simply aren’t aware of the risks they take by failing to use appropriate child restraints or failing to use them correctly. See http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/ for useful advice on what to do to ensure children of all ages are safe.”
