Between 10th -13th October, HRH Prince Michael of Kent made a working visit to Belarus where he met with EASST partner and FIA member the Belarusian Auto Moto Touring Club (BKA). HRH Prince Michael is patron to a number of initiatives that focus on promoting road safety around the world, and in 1987 he established the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards in recognition of achievement and innovation in road safety worldwide.

During his visit to Belarus the Prince met with BKA Director, Irina Potyakina together with Mr. Francis Delaey, Head of the EBRD office in Belarus, to learn more about the road safety situation in Belarus and the BKA’s efforts to improve the local situation.

Special attention was paid to the projects that were carried out with a strong support and assistance of EASST, including the recent campaign promoting the rights of people with disabilities on the roads. HRH was pleased to hear of the scale and success of the projects and collaboration with the government to reduce road fatalities in Belarus, recommending that the BKA be nominated for next year’s International Road Safety Awards.

Of this, Irina Potyakina said: “It is a great honour for BKA to have such kind of a chance.”

Congratulations BKA!
