On 19th September, EASST’s Kyrgyz partner Road Safety took part in a multi-agency international workshop focusing on road safety in professional road transportation, which was organised as part of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. The recommendations for better occupational road safety standards produced by the participating organisations have been accepted for consideration by the Kyrgyz Government.
The workshop covered areas such as the use of international agreements in the frame of road transportation, research related to commercial vehicles, and training programmes for managers and drivers of transport-related companies.
The IRU gave a presentation on the research and training programmes for commercial drivers while the Kyrgyz Emergency Ministry presented their work in the field of road safety. Representatives from Uzbekistan and Belarus also offer their experiences of working through international agreements to ensure a safe road culture and their with freight transport organisations.
The workshop was carried out by the Training Centre of Kyrgyzstan International Road Carriers Association in collaboration with the Academy of International Road Transport Union with the support of the Kyrgyz Republic Government.
