On 19th October 2013, the final stage of the national ‘Road Safety is Life’ contest took place in Chisinau. The project was organised under the auspices of the National Patrol Inspectorate in cooperation with EASST partner the Automobile Club of Moldova and the Ministry of Education.

The contest allows children to demonstrate their road safety knowledge

The contest took place at the children’s road traffic near the 83 “Grigore Vieru” school in Chisinau, built within the Moldovan-Estonian project “Road Safety of Children in Moldova”, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia and the Automobile Club of Moldova.

The annual contest is a highlight for the children

Six teams of participants from different Moldovan schools demonstrated their knowledge of road traffic rules and road safety skills. The contest winners were pupils from the “Lev Tolstoi” Lyceum, Glodeni, which very soon will have a traffic ground built in their town.

PPE donated by Northamptonshire Highways via EASST

Thanks to a donation from Northamptonshire Highways and facilitation from the British Embassy of Moldova, EASST was able to provide school crossing patrol uniforms to the Automobile Club of Moldova for use in the contest. The team from “Chiril si Metodiu” lyceum in Chisinau (ACM’s partner school and volunteer to promote road safety) received the high vis uniforms which they used in the creative element of the road safety contest to help teach the younger children about basic road crossing safety.
