During 18th- 31st March 2015, EASST partner the Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) in collaboration with the RACE (Real Automóvil Club de España) and UAMK (Automobile Club of the Czech Republic) delivered road safety training for over 700 employees of Gas Natural Fenosa (GNF), the largest electricity distributor in Moldova. Therefore, the ACM continues its partnership and cooperation with the GNF to improve occupational road safety policies in the company – work it began last year.

Understanding key risk factors such as drink driving

Over 700 workers including senior managers attended the theoretical road safety course which explained the main road traffic risk factors (drink driving, distracted driving, driver fatigue, seatbelt non-use, speeding), as well as how to reduce them.

Furthermore, the participants of the training (both as drivers and passengers) tested the turnover simulator and understood the importance of seatbelt use, because they felt the laws of physics through the rotation of 360 degrees (pictured below).

The turnover simulator

Drivers also had the chance to use the driving simulator and were surprised by the risk and dangerous traffic situations. In this way, they were taught how to brake effectively and avoid a crash; they checked their braking reaction time and recognized what the stopping distance meant and how it was affected by the speed.

The main benefit of the delivered course is that drivers have become aware of what may be happening on the road and that leads to more responsibility and attention.

The training involved many practical activities

This kind of training is applied by many large companies with car fleets in Europe, as it results in a reduction of employee road traffic collisions, injuries and operational costs, as well as fuel savings through ecological driving.
