In cooperation with the Democratic Commission of USA Embassy in Bishkek, EASST’s Kyrgyz partner ‘Road Safety PA’ has been working to improve deteriorated road signs in the capital city.

One of the newly improved signs

Many road signs in Bishkek are old and difficult to see for road users. Therefore, with funding from the American Embassy, ‘Road Safety PA’ has over the last few months been adding reflective backgrounds to signs in order to make them more visible to drivers, pedestrians and other road users. It is hoped that this will help to reduce road violations and therefore injuries and deaths.

Now more visible at night

The project, approved by both the Bishkek Traffic Police and the Mayor’s Office, has involved the installment of 30 improved road signs over the last six weeks. The improved signs are located near schools, universities and markets.
