The World Bank has highlighted the importance of road improvements and road safety in bringing a “new lease of life to many rural areas in Armenia”.
The Safe Villages scheme, talked about in the feature, was initiated by EASST’s local partner, the National Road Safety Council, under the World Bank’s Life Line Road Network Improvement project. It has seen advocacy campaigns across 65 communities, raising awareness around speeding and children’s road safety.
Under the same project, the National Road Safety Council piloted a new approach to Armenian road construction in Gulagarak village, which has changed construction norms across the country so that they are now much safer.
