Since 2010 an annual contest has taken place for Tajikistan’s Young Road Inspectors (YIR) with the organisers marking its fifth year this month in June 2015. The aims of the contest are to promote safe road use and behaviour among children and young adults and to attract attention to the importance of road safety.

In 2015, the contest was dedicated to the Year of the Family with 14 YIR teams participating from across the country. Children from Bobojon Gafurov district, Vakhdat, Danghara, Istaravshan, Konibodom, Rasht, Tursunzoda district, Jaloliddini Rumi district, Jilikul district, Shahrinav, Shugnon and Dushanbe participated with an opening ceremony taking place on 1st June at the Akasharif Juraev State Philharmonic of Tajikistan.

The children competed in 10 categories including: ‘road traffic rules’, ‘young nurse’, ‘professional skills’, ‘safe circle’ and other areas. After some wonderful road safety displays from all teams, the award for first place was given to the YIR Team from Konibodom. Teams from Bobojon Gafurov district and Dushanbe Lyceum 2 for talented children took second place. Third place was awarded to the team from J.Rumi district and School 42 in Dushanbe.

The fifth anniversary of the Young Road Inspectors contest was organised and supported by State Auto Inspection, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republic of Tajikistan, Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of Tajikistan, Committee of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism under the Government of Republic of Tajikistan, with sponsorship from JSC “Faroz”, Youth Led- NGO “Young Generation Tajikistan” and Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST).
